AEP GridSMART

Ecohouse is an AEP GridSMART partner.

Ecohouse works in Central Ohio to provide comprehensive Energy Audits, and Solar Energy installations as part of the AEP GridSMART program.  Starting February 1, 2012 AEP is paying $300 toward an energy audit if you have an all electric home.

The Comprehensive Energy Audit usually takes about 2-3 hours and involves a Blower Door test to evaluate air leakage, an infrared camera scan to determine insulation performance, a Duct test to check the integrity of your duct work and combustion testing of your furnace/boiler and water heater to make sure they are operating safely and efficiently. The audit also includes an evaluation of your appliances and lighting. You will receive a detailed report with recommendations arranged by cost effectiveness. An audit is strongly recommended for most homes in order to identify potential energy problems, and qualify for the rebates available from AEP though the gridSMART program.

AEP subsidizes most of the cost of the Audit, and also gives you energy savings products for free when you sign up for an Audit, including: programmable thermostast, 12 compact flourescent light bulbs, LED nightlight, energy efficient shower heads and faucet aerators and 6 feet of water pipe insulation.

The cost of the Audit is $350, and you only pay $50, which will be re-imbursed if you install $1000 worth of energy efficiency measures. AEP also offers rebates on  attic and wall insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, and installation of high efficiency heating and air conditioning systems.
